20lb Common

Common - weight: 20lb - Coarse Lake

Competitions and Events

Boxing Day Competition - For the first time in four years, the weather was kind to both the anglers and us. As all of you regulars will know, every time we arrange a competition, in true Pallington fashion, the temperature drops to near freezing!  This year, however, the weather was mild and the lakes fished well for a competition - held on both the Rainbow and the Coarse Lakes..

It was only run as a friendly, like most things here at Pallington, and it was an excuse to get away from the turkey!

Starting at 9am through to 4pm, 17 fish came out in total - more were dropped (the reflection of a good Christmas?)!  No whoppers this time, but plenty of action for Simon and Richie who were weighing in and thought that they would be in for an easy, relaxing day!!  Josh Helliker, 13yrs from Wimborne, won himself a Solar Globetrotter set up by landing a total of 57lb of carp from the bottom of the Coarse Lake with Pallatrax Poms-Pommes being the successful bait.

Winter Series - Again, the Winter Series is run as four friendly competitions throughout these colder months on a basis of 'winner takes all' in each match.  All matches are held on a Saturday 9am-4pm, so there is the opportunity to fish on if you want.

The first match was held on 18th January on the Coarse Lake.  It started off as a pleasant, sunny yet cold day. By lunchtime the rain was with us, but it turned the fishing on.  Just about everyone caught (well, it is hard to blank at Pallington!) and Kevin Dear from Weymouth triumphed on Pallatrax Red Boilies by landing two fish, the bigger being an unknown 20lb Common (photo above) - compensating for the one he dropped from Pooh Corner (top right hand side of the Coarse Lake).  Winner takes all' - Kevin won himself a £100 voucher to spend in the shop, so it was like Christmas all over again for him!

The next match is to be held on the Rainbow Lake on Saturday 15th February.  The remaining two matches are to be held on 8th March and 5th April - lake to be confirmed.  The entry fee is £15 per angler for a maximum of 2 rods and includes soup and a burger/roll for lunch.
